Networking with Businesses on Social Media

Building a following of clients on social networks takes effort and dedication and to those salons that have built up a throng of admirers on social media, kudos. But have you ever thought about how networking with other businesses can help, too? While it may not seem like the best use of resources on the surface, it’s no different than partnerships with other local businesses around the corner. Networking online with other companies can give a boost to business and your bottom line.

Fact: People look online before deciding which salon to visit. Of course consumer reviews help influence those decisions, but connections to other reputable businesses can also persuade clients to choose you. For example, a local wedding photographer who shows you some Follow Friday hashtag (#FF) love will notify the people in her Twitterverse that she likes your salon. The same can be said for including local business groups in your list of followers and likes. Your own reputation can be strengthened simply through associations.

There are also more tangible reasons to form strong business social media connections. You will be more aware of events taking place in your area and industry and can partner with other businesses for community outreach sponsorship. A social media relationship can also be the start of a referral program you establish with other area businesses. Oh, the possibilities are endless!

So how do you build meaningful social media relationships with other businesses? There are several smart ways to reach out to other businesses in order to strengthen your own salon brand. The first is to simply follow business accounts on social media sites, and encourage them to return the follow through a message. Another great way to get the attention of another business social media account is by sharing its status or link. The business will see you furthered its message and will want to know more about your salon business.

Another way to establish a social media relationship is by visiting other businesses in person. Drop off business cards and introduce yourself. Specifically mention connecting through social media and point out the URLs on your business card. Before you leave, say you will connect with that business when you get back to the salon, or even connect right from your smartphone. This will prompt the business owner to return the favor.
